Department Summary:
Farm Smart is an educational outreach program of the Desert Research and Extension Center in Holtville, CA. It began in 2001 and continues to grow and educate through the Winter Visitor and K-12 programs. To date, Farm Smart has reached over 168,000 people.

Position Summary:
Supervises administrative staff performing routine and / or largely operational duties using established guidelines, procedures, and policies. Supervises day-to-day operations. Ensures quality control and compliance with established standards and procedures for assigned programs. Assigns, monitors and reviews progress and accuracy of work of staff.

This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.

Pay Scale: $51,700.00/year to $70,400.00/year

Key Responsibilities:

30%

Directly supervises administrative staff, and provides significant input to staff performance and development, team building and communications, resolution of issues and conflicts, review and approval of work, and hiring and training employees.

25%

Participates in developing and monitoring operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.

20%

Supervises scheduling and administration of classroom instruction, e-learning programs, and student registration.

15%

Advises manager on changes and improvements to Community Education programs.

10%

Handles more complex issues raised by subordinates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with clients and instructors.
  • Working knowledge of community education, technical education, and / or training and development programs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective leadership skills, including directing and developing staff members.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
  • Travel including travel outside normal business hours may be requested. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
  • Must comply with regulatory agency reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
  • Direct access to or responsibility for cash, cash equivalents, checks, or University property, disbursements or receipts (as defined in BUS-49, Section III.C.).
  • The University reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check. This is a designated position requiring a background check and may require fingerprinting due to the nature of the job responsibilities. UC ANR does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
