POSITION DESCRIPTION

Department: Therapy Services

Position: Occupational Therapist

Supervised by: Director of Therapy Services

Job Summary:

Evaluates patients, plans and implements an effective patient focused occupational therapy program utilizing standard and specialized treatment techniques, effectively communicates and documents information regarding patients. Establishes and initiates discharge plans as necessary. Consistently evaluates outcome of care and provides continuous monitoring of patients' needs making appropriate modifications in the treatment plan. Maintain a high level of professional expertise and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.

Mandatory:

Graduate of a college or University with a baccalaureate or master's degree in Occupational Therapy.

Current CA Occupational Therapy license and maintain current.

Current CPR certification (BLS).

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified by the National Board of Occupational Therapy is preferred.

One to two years experience in either an acute hospital and/or rehabilitation department and/or outpatient clinic is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Approximately 80% standing or walking, approximately 20% sitting (including frequent stooping, reaching, occasional kneeling, crouching and crawling during patient treatment).

Frequent lifting or assisting with lifting patients and equipment up to 50 pounds.

Must have dexterity, coordination and visual and auditory acuity to perform all job responsibilities (e.g. ordinary speech and hearing necessary for conversation and use of telephone, near and far visual acuity is necessary for reading documents, writing, and observing patients).

Must be free from signs of infection and illness.

Full understanding of body mechanics and safety precautions in order to protect employees, patients, and families.

The worker spends the majority of the rime inside, however, out of doors activities are expected depending upon the individual needs of the patient.
