Job Summary

The Patient Care Services Director of Professional Development is accountable for oversight clinical education programs within PCS through active engagement with Senior Leadership and department staff to oversee the creation, management, design, planning, and coordination of clinical professional development educational programs, including several key programs essential to organizational performance, such as Clinical Nurse Onboarding, ANCC/PTAP New Graduate Nurse Residency, American Heart Association Resuscitation Training programs, Nursing School partnerships and student placements, and Accredited Continuing Education Provider Programs. This person is accountable for all aspects of administration for these programs, including long range strategic planning, ongoing goal setting, budget planning and management, including monitoring of Return on Investment, ensuring that all are meeting external regulatory and accreditation standards, policy development, staff recruitment and supervision, budget planning and monitoring, and oversight of liaison activities with external and internal stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current CA RN license
  • Master's degree in nursing or related area
  • BSN
  • Progressive leadership and expertise in leadership of professional development programs, including current understanding of nursing practice standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise with adult learning and nursing professional development education.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and provide leadership to staff in administration of multiple large programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, fiscal, and operational management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels, as well as external agencies
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to quickly identify problems and implement effective solutions
  • Demonstrated strong skills in project management, interpersonal and communication skills to implement education programs across a broad spectrum of nursing and clinical departments
  • Ability to work creatively with others and solicit and incorporate their ideas when appropriate and assess information critically and apply it appropriately 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nursing Professional Development specialty certification 
  • Nurse Executive, Advanced Specialty Certification 
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or Education.

  • 30% - Personnel Management: Provides supervision and leadership for Center for Professional Practice of Nursing Staff and adjunct faculty in working to achieve organizational goals. 
  • 30% - Professional Development/Change Management: Accountable to create environment for ongoing development of both self and others.

The Center for Professional Practice of Nursing strives to provide quality education to nurses and allied health professionals at UC Davis Health and throughout the community. A priority for CPPN is the education of health-care providers to prepare them to provide excellent patient care in the midst of advancing technology, increasing acuity, and an ever-changing political climate affecting nursing as a practice. 
CPPN is committed to supporting the educational endeavors of all nursing staff and to help in preparing them to advance their specialty practice and in the acquisition of various certifications. This goal not only reflects the premium patient care provided by this facility, but also provides a significant level of professional satisfaction to our staff. Our vision is to support and assist our health-care providers in the pursuit of ongoing academic and clinical learning. In addition, CPPN based education is provided free of charge to UC Davis Health staff. 

By providing learning opportunities for staff, patients, and community populations, CPPN serves as a hub for many of the clinical educational endeavors occurring throughout Northern California. This is achieved through onsite instruction, distance education, and Web-based education programs.
