Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and the indirect supervision of the Pharmacy Director, responsibilities will include acting as the lead online Customer Service representative. The individual will assure that the Pharmacy runs smoothly and that customers are satisfied and all protocols are followed. The individual in this position must handle the majority of customer complaints and set high standards for customer service. Other responsibilities will include improving Pharmacy efficacy through work flow analysis, reorganization of work flow and developing resolutions to identified problems. Responsibilities also include teaching and training of new pharmacy staff on compounding, inventory, omnicells and pharmacy protocols in addition to instructing veterinary and pharmacy students and residents throughout the veterinary school. This will include training on new state and federal paperwork required for compounding of oral and sterile products. Other responsibilities include oversight of the majority of pharmaceutical drug ordering, Inpatient and Outpatient drug distribution of veterinary drugs (preparation, labeling, and dispensing), controlled substance distribution, Omnicell stocking and report generation.

 

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Move, lift, and maneuver large boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Stand for up to 8 hours.
  • May require working in areas with some limited exposure to animal dander, dust, chemicals and cytotoxics.

 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional overtime, usually during unanticipated staff shortages or during heavy workload periods. Work hours may include occasional Saturdays.
  • Work in a mobile isolation unit.
  • Valid CA driver's license required.
  • Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Minimum License/Certification:

 

  • Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

 

  • Current Pharmacy Technician License with the California State Board of Pharmacy.

 

 

Minimum Education/Experience:

 

  • Customer service background.

 

  • Experience as a pharmacy technician in both an inpatient and outpatient environment including order entry and computer applications.

 

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

 

  • Oral communication and problem solving skills in difficult settings where clients are emotionally upset.

 

  • Math skills to calculate drug dosages.

 

  • Multitasking skills while on phone, typing, filling prescriptions and answering multiple questions.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Preferred Education/Experience:   

 

  • Experience within a veterinary pharmacy including medications used in animals.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

 

  • Ability to interpret written veterinary prescriptions.

 

  • Ability to handle and prepare cytotoxic drugs consistent with USP 800.
