Job Summary

Department Purpose

The UC Davis Stores is a full-service institutional store, owned and operated by the University, to provide the tools of education to the University community. With annual sales of ~$20 million, this auxiliary operation, within the Division of Student Affairs, has multiple locations on the Davis campus, in downtown Davis, and a warehouse. The Assistant Director of Operations and Web ensures an efficient operation of the main store, web sales, and product delivery.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of General Merchandise, be the sales representative for the UC Davis Stores to the main campus, the Veterinary School of Medicine, Law School, Graduate School of Management, the UC Davis Extension, and the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, etc. with a primary focus on technology.

Build relationships and network with campus departments. This includes in-person visits, tabling at applicable events, as well as seeking opportunities to interact with staff.

Additionally, the staff will be the primary liaison with the customer from the order through delivery. This will include utilizing systems to ensure correct and timely fulfillment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

  • Valid CA driver's license to drive a GEM cart on and off-campus.

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Experience providing customer service in a retail environment.
  • Experience in sales with demonstrated success in increasing market share and revenue.
  • Experience using Microsoft and Google Suite products and automated and computerized financial systems to create reports and analyze data to identify and resolve discrepancies or problems. Experience, whether professional or personal, with technology products.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of features/benefits of various computer hardware, operating systems, applications, etc. and the proficiency to recommend products based on product availability and customer needs.
  • Skill to organize work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Skill to interpret contracts, guidelines, policies and procedures pertaining to accounting, purchasing, marketing, and other business-related activities.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse community and to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, students, faculty, administrators, other campus departments, vendors, and sales representatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Experience in high volume sales with demonstrated success order fulfillment
  • Experience using inventory management software (e.g. MBS), and performing data entry, retrieval and report generation.
  • Experience in the procurement of technology merchandise for a large retail store or college bookstore, including evaluation and selection of the most appropriate vendors and effective product mix, and ability to negotiate prices and services.
  • Experience working and providing customer service in a high-volume computer retail store/department that sells, repairs and services Apple and Windows PCs

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Skills to analyze and respond to a wide variety of data (e.g. sales & budget reports, market trends, contracts, product information, customer needs, etc.).
  • Skill to calculate cash count, merchandise discounts, etc.
  • Skill to read, interpret and apply policies, procedures and contracts pertaining to financial administration, personnel and other business-related activities.
