Job Summary

Under general supervisions, the Staff Research Associate will provide research support to the planning, organization and analysis of a large project assessing impacts of heat extremes and vineyard practices on vine heath, physiological responses and berry/wine chemistry in wine grapes. The Staff Research Associate will lead this project, coordinating all team members. They will curate, write scripts, organize and analyze data for a large climate change data set. Prepare reports and manuscripts as well as conduct literature reviews.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • MS or PhD in Viticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Physiology or related field
  • Experience with physiological data collection (e.g., gas exchange, water potentials)
  • Experience with wine making and basic chemical analysis of wines, including phenolic extraction (pH, TA, Malic acid, glucose/fructose, phenolics)
  • Experience analyzing and curating large datasets
  • Experience with physiological data collection (e.g., gas exchange, water potentials)
  • Experience analyzing berry and wine chemistry, and general enological knowledge
  • Experience analyzing and curating large datasets

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of viticulture operations and systems
  • Proficiency in Excel and R
  • Ability to work well with a team-MS or PhD in Viticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Physiology or related field
  • Excellent communication and writing skills

 

Preferred:

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Experience analyzing berry and wine chemistry, including knowledge of using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and analyzing resulting data

 

  • Experience with data loggers, writing programs and code for collection of micrometeorological data in the field
