Job Description

Essential Duties:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
1. Supervises transportation staff to include new hire department orientation and training.
2. Provides and relays appropriate information regarding transportation issues to the Director.
3. Ensures competency of all transporters in performing transportation duties.
4. Responsible for the effective recruitment, retention, orientation, performance evaluations, and counseling of employees.
5. Assures all evaluations are completed fairly, accurately, and prior to due date.
6. Follows-up on issues (staff, patient and physician complaints) and completes in a timely and thorough manner.
7. Troubleshoots and resolves issues with technical equipment; patient and personnel problems.
8. Participates in resolving interdepartmental system problems.


Public Relations
9. Timely response to pages.
10. Courteous response to all calls.
11. Prioritizes calls and tasks appropriately.
12. Communicates effectively with nursing and ancillary departments.
13. Consistently meets uniform clothing requirements.


Transportation Of Patients
14. Transports patients to/from their rooms and to and from:
· Admitting
· Emergency Room
· Another Room
· Home Transportation at Designated Points
· Morgue
· Labor and Delivery
· Operating/Recovery Room
· Diagnostic Imaging Department
· GI Lab
· Cardiology


Transports/Deliver
15. Transports or delivers to various departments/nursing stations:
· Lab Specimens
· Equipment
· Central Supply Items
· Admitting Documents
· Mail


Safety
16. Maintains BCLS and CPR certification.
17. Displays proper body mechanics when lifting or transferring patients or objects from one location to another.
18. Demonstrates Universal Precautions and follows isolation procedures.
19. Recognizes when assistance is needed in a transport situation.


Communication
20. Communicates and supports the mission, vision and values of the organization.
21. Maintains a positive and professional attitude. Serves as a role model for employees.
22. Ensures staff meetings are scheduled; informs staff of changes and hospital events.
23. Communicates effectively with Director.
 

Completes all other duties as assigned.
 


Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Current American Heart Association BLS certification. Minimum two years supervisory experience preferred.                                            
Mandatory Requirements
- Hospital Mandatory Education Requirements: Orientation, Environment of Care, OSHA, Infection control, Abuse/Neglect, Ethics, etc. 
- Tuberculosis Screening
