The Office of Admissions is seeking a personable, energetic, and poised Assistant Director of Recruitment. Under the guidance of the Senior Associate Director of Recruitment, the Assistant Director of Recruitment will play a vital role within the team, focusing on critical aspects of the recruitment process. This position actively contributes to the overarching goals of the Office of Admissions by assisting with the development, implementation, and assessment of policies, programs, and financial objectives for the Office of Admissions in general and recruitment area, specifically; ensuring continuity and quality of all recruitment efforts for the office aimed at attracting and enrolling new students to the University of Utah. Integral to this role is ensuring superior levels of customer service, and fostering seamless interactions between prospective students, university departments, and various stakeholders. The Assistant Director oversees the supervision and guidance of admissions counselors, ensuring the planning and implementation of recruitment activities.

Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of the hiring department's area of specialization to analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and ensure the smooth operation of the department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

A master's degree in a related area may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description and the following key responsibilities.

  • Assist with the development, implementation, reporting, and assessment of a domestic first-year recruitment plan, which helps the institution achieve its enrollment goals.
  • Effectively assess the impact and success of recruitment strategies and tactics by collecting and analyzing various types of data to recommend and implement improvements and changes to existing efforts.
  • Responsible for the training/development, supervision, support, evaluation, and retention of full-time, professional staff members.
  • Work closely with the other recruitment managers to support an office culture of accountability, teamwork, and consistency.
  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Welcome Center.
  • Manage recruitment requests, event registrations, and staff coverage. Oversee recruitment event tracking system to assess visits, and generate regular reports to share with admissions staff.
  • Support the recruitment and admission of freshman and transfer students from institutions within an assigned territory. Build personalized relationships with prospective students, families, school counselors, alumni, and other constituents in support of the recruitment goals for the territory.
  • Read and evaluate all domestic application files in an assigned territory, and oversee and manage the reading volume and deadlines for direct reports.
  • Oversee the travel planning and approval process for direct reports, and have an in-depth knowledge of the university's travel policies, procedures, and Concur travel system.
