Description

As the members of the Office of Community Resources and Support (OCRS) staff, Accessibility Specialists collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to cultivate a culture of access and inclusion for members of the UT Dallas community who have disabilities. This position reports to the Associate Director of the AccessAbility Resource Center (ARC).

They support ARC and university leadership in ensuring compliance with federal and state accessibility regulations; determining eligibility for ARC services and resources; and coordinating access to accommodations and services for individuals with disabilities. They also assist in providing consultation to UT Dallas faculty and staff, external agencies and prospective students and employees.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a concentration in disability services, rehabilitation, counseling, human resources, psychology, social work, policy, education or other related field. Three (3) years relevant experience providing resources and support for individuals needing accommodations in academic and/or workplace settings. Deep knowledge of and experience applying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate applicable laws and university policies, rules, and regulations governing accommodations. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree with a concentration in disability services, special education, human resources, rehabilitation counseling, professional counseling, social work or other related field; National Certified Counselor (NCC) and/or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and/or relevant professional credentials; experience providing support and resources to ensure accessibility for individuals with a range of physical, cognitive, sensory, chronic health and/or other disabilities; knowledge of assistive technology.

We are seeking candidates who possess excellent communication skills and can work collaboratively in teams comprised of individuals of various backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

The most successful candidates will demonstrate maturity in interpersonal interactions and decision making; the ability to work under pressure in a faced-paced environment; excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work with multiple and competing interests; and will be a self-starter who works well in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the implementation of Office of Campus Resources and Support (OCRS) strategic initiatives for improving and strengthening efforts toward cultivating a welcoming, fair, and supportive culture on the campus.
  • Provides case management services for students with disabilities. This includes reviewing documentation, conducting intake interviews and follow up meetings, recommending academic accommodations and adjustments, making referrals to other campus and community resources, advocating for students with disabilities in university programs and services and helping students develop learning and life strategies that promote their holistic well-being and success.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director and Associate Director to develop reports, presentations, research briefs, and other materials related to ARC's mission.
  • Provides follow through and tracks the status of and satisfaction with services provided through assessment and evaluation.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director and Associate Director to develop reports, presentations, research briefs, and other materials related the ARC's mission.
  • Represents ARC on interdepartmental committees and working groups to support OCRS and university strategic initiatives.
  • Keeps abreast of new and evolving legal requirements and best practices in accessibility for students with disabilities in higher education.
