Description

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is inviting applicants for an NIH-funded post-doctoral fellow position in the Speech Neuroscience Lab. Our research is focused on studying the sensorimotor mechanisms of speech and their impairments in neurogenic populations with post-stroke aphasia. Excellent facilities for EEG, fMRI, and behavioral testing are available.

The Research Associate will plan, conduct, and direct a wide variety of experiments and simulations using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods, and procedures. They're responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data, and for planning and executing the details of experiments according to research protocol. The fellow will have an exciting opportunity to pursue collaborative projects across multi-disciplinary programs at the UTD as well as the Center for the Study of Aphasia Recovery at the University of South Carolina, and the Department of Cognitive and Language Sciences at the University of California, Irvine.
This position is in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at UTD (bbs.utdallas.edu). Candidates with a PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Hearing Science and other related fields (e.g., Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Engineering and Psychology) are welcome to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.



Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with Speech, EEG, and fMRI data collection and analysis as well as computer programming is preferred.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating research activities including experimental design.
  • Involvement in participant recruitment and testing.
  • Work with data acquisition and analysis as well as student mentorship.
  • Writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Presenting research in professional and scientific meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience working with human subjects.
  • Training in signal processing and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in the English language (both written and verbal)


Additional Information

Work will be performed on-site and in person.

Travel
This position may be subject to local travel for assessment, data collection, participant recruitment, or participant needs. Other occasional travel may occur such as for training/development, conferences, etc. What We Can Offer
