Position: Neurology Nurse Practitioner

Location: VHC Health

Schedule: Full-Time

Job Summary:

VHC Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) specializing in Neurology to join our dynamic team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide high quality, comprehensive care to patients with neurological conditions. This role is predominantly an inpatient-based position, to support our employed Stroke Call Coverage Team. It is a midweek, Monday-Friday role during normal business hours of 8am-5pm and will entail 20% outpatient office coverage, primarily for stroke follow-up visits. The NP will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage neurological conditions, striving to optimize patient outcomes and improve quality of life.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough neurological assessments of patients, including physical examinations, detailed medical history reviews, and appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • The Nurse Practitioner will be involved in the care of all patient admitted to our inpatient service, ranging from the critically ill, unstable ICU patients to floor patients
  • The Nurse Practitioner will see patients in the emergency room, in the intensive care unit, in the intermediate care unit and on the telemetry and medical / surgical floors
  • The Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with the doctor on call for Neurosurgery
  • The number of patients seen by the Nurse Practitioner will vary on a daily basis
  • We estimate that he / she will see between ten and twenty-five patients per day
  • The Nurse Practitioner may be responsible for initial history and physical examinations, admissions orders, daily progress notes, daily medical orders, transfer orders to various unit and consultation with other health care members
  • Document patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner, utilizing electronic medical records systems.
  • Stay current with advancements in neurology through continuous learning, attending conferences, and staying abreast of relevant research and best practices.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical standards of practice, maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in VA.
  • Certification as FNP or ACNP. Specialization or focus in Neurology is highly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Neurology, preferred.
  • Strong clinical expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of neurological conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records systems, EPIC preferred.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
