This position also possesses a good knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation and utilizes effective communication with multiple units nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • High school diploma or Equivalent.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program preferred.
  • Obtain certification in HeartSaver OR Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Additional Job Description:

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Performs cardiac monitoring for all telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients that are routed to the Telemetry

Surveillance Unit. Each Cardiac Monitor Technician visually monitors between 32 and 50 patients per station on telemetry and hard-wire units in Telemetry Surveillance Center (TSC) for all patients assigned in Ruby Memorial that is routed to the Telemetry Surveillance Center.

2. Monitors, identifies changes, addresses alarms to identify any abnormal heart rhythm variation, and reports the patient's cardiac rhythm, and or life-threatening cardiac events to medical and nursing staff.

3. Analyzes, interprets and measures ECG strip waveform displays and documents each patient's rhythm every eight hours along with any changes and reports these changes according to established guidelines and protocols.

4. Utilizes Wave Strip Export to upload patient's cardiac rhythms/events to corresponding chart in EPIC.

5. Monitors centralized pulse oximetry for general pediatric population and adult Orthopedic patients when indicated

6. Guide junior staff on how to compare and interpret rhythm strips

7. Maintains a log that indicates name of nurse and extension of his/her wireless phone assigned to each monitored patient each shift. Informs appropriate nurse of any dysrhythmia via his/her wireless phone.

8. Utilizes Epic/Telemetry Dashboard to ensure accuracy of patient Admissions/Discharges/Transfers.

9. Accurately obtains/enters/deletes patient information from the Telemetry Surveillance Center at admission, discharge and transfer using the A/D/T system.

10. Assembles a telemetry pack, battery, and electrodes for nursing staff.  Ensures batteries are charged and installed properly

11. Assists in indirect patient care by managing inventory and assignment of certain patient equipment items.

12. Participates in bi-weekly battery count inventory to help maintain/keep track of equipment.

13. Keeps inventory of 10 Southeast's telemetry packs, assigns packs to new patients, and retrieves packs at discharge if

needed.  Cleans each telemetry pack between each patient use.

14. Monitors equipment and assists with trouble shooting of  malfunctioning equipment with proper notification (i.e.: Healthcare Technology Supervisor and Nurse Manager)

15. Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Health Care Technology Supervisor and Nurse Manager

16. Assists in routine unit operation as directed/needed to ensure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. Ensures smooth communication with other units for whom cardiac, pulse oximetry and capnography monitoring is being performed with proper documentation.

17. Assures patient safety is first and foremost by identifying and prioritizing tasks by importance.

18. Courteously answers telephone with professional etiquette, identifying self and department at all times.

19. Relays accurate and clear message to appropriate receiver with documentation in a timely manner.

1. Ability to Troubleshoots technology with biomedical engineering and clinical staff.
