The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Data Engineer is a member of the Web, Data, and Analytics team responsible for data engineering and programming to build systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for business analysts. The role is crucial in identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements to enhance scalability, optimize data delivery, and automate manual processes.


 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.

  • Ensure the timely and efficient completion of multiple complex projects within specified timeframes, maintaining a high level of quality and adherence to project requirements.

  • Lead the strategic decision-making processes regarding data infrastructure and associated technology stack, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and optimal resource utilization.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.

  • Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using cloud offerings and SQL technologies.

  • Build analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insight into key business performance metrics.

  • Analyze and optimize data processing workflows.

  • Collaborate with multiple system partners to continuously improve data quality.

  • Responsible for ensuring data processing pipelines and systems are secure, reliable, fault-tolerant, scalable, and efficient.

  • Collaborate with data architect to ensure optimally performing data ecosystem.

  • Be a critical stakeholder in architectural decisions and evaluating systems implementations.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Advanced knowledge with Enterprise ETL software.

  • Demonstrated ability to guide a team effectively to accomplish goals and objectives while adhering to industry standards and procedures.

  • Intrinsically driven, adept at working autonomously with little supervision or guidance.

  • Highly skilled in JavaScript and SQL, with a focus on optimizing data processes.

  • Skilled in handling diverse data formats (XML/SOAP, JSON, CSV) and establishing various connections through ODBC, web services, APIs, and WSDLs for comprehensive data retrieval.

  • Advanced knowledge of database and warehousing architecture for efficient data storage and retrieval.

  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling principles and project management for effective implementation.

  • Strong communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts clearly and facilitating collaboration.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity while troubleshooting complex technical issues.

  • Demonstrated adeptness in critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytics to drive data-informed decision-making with a proactive, self-starting approach.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience as an ETL Developer.

  • Five years of experience working in Cloud Platforms, preferably Azure or AWS.

  • Five years of experience working with analytics tools.

Preferences

  • Four years of experience using Microsoft Power Apps.

  • Three years of experience working with software and hardware vendors.

  • Two years of experience using Jitterbit.

  • Working knowledge of Data Bricks or Snowflake technology.

  • Experience in various Salesforce clouds.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

Requirements

  • None.

Preferences

  • Certification in established ETL Software (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), IBM Certified Solution Developer, Oracle Certified Associate, Informatica Certified Professional (ICP)).

  • Salesforce certification (e.g., Certified Administrator, Certified Data Architecture and Management Designer, Certified Platform App Builder, Certified Integration Architecture Designer).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 20 pounds.

  • Up to 10% travel.
