  • POSITION SUMMARY
    • Occupational Therapists are professional staff whose treatment is designed to improve, develop, and restore function impaired or lost through illness, injury or deprivation. Treatment is aimed at improving the ability to perform tasks for index functioning when functions are impaired or lost, and to prevent through early intervention initial or further impairment or loss of function. Occupational Therapists must strive to provide the highest possible level of care for the patient and work toward the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. High quality care and overall efficiency are essential components to this success.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education and Experience:
      • Completion of a course of training by a school of Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association, certificate or a degree in Occupational Therapy required.
    • License/Certificates:
      • Must be licensed in accordance with State laws and regulations. American Heart Association BLS required within 30 days of hire.
    • Special Skills and Aptitudes:
      • Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills.
      • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately.
      • Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation.
      • Possesses a high level of organizational and clerical skills.
      • Exercises good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and insight in problem solving.
      • Adjusts to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment.
  • ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Evaluates the patient by performing and interpreting tests and measurements, such as muscle testing, joint measurement, sensory and cognitive testing.
    • Develops a plan of care for each patient upon order or referral of a physician, setting short and long term goals and includes discharge summary.
    • Utilize OT media including recreational, educational and social activities and training in everyday activities such as personal care and homemaking. This may include designing, fabricating and fitting orthotic and self help devices.
    • Maintains adequate records and progress notes on each patient and completes daily billing.
    • Participates in patient care conferences with other related health services, patient, and family to review patient's progress and evaluate goals.
    • Plans home instruction for patient, family, friend, or public nursing services.
    • Delegates selected forms of treatment to supportive personnel with assumption of responsibility for care of patient and continuing supervision of supportive personnel.
    • Maintains awareness of services that Medicare or other insurance will cover for Occupational Therapy services and consults with patient, physician, family, or legal guardian regarding expenses.
    • Responsible for the ordering and maintenance of supplies for the occupational therapy service.
    • Works with other Medical Center personnel to set up programs to prevent potential disability and acquaints them with the objectives of Occupational Therapy.
    • Assists in setting up department policy.
    • Assists in setting up programs to better serve the health needs of the area.
    • Assists in orientation and training of new staff to the Rehabilitation Department.
    • Promotes a caring, helpful attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
    • Demonstrates resourcefulness in emergency situations.
    • Performs Occupational Therapy procedures and techniques following established protocols.
    • Keeps general work area clean and maintains equipment and furniture in good working order.
    • Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
