The Highlights:
The Assistant Director for Religious Diversity, Pastoral Care, and Jewish Life will serve within DePaul's Division of Mission and Ministry, specifically within the Office of Religious Diversity & Pastoral Care. The Assistant Director will support the religious and spiritual life of DePaul's Jewish community by developing, implementing, and supporting DePaul-sponsored and student-centered/led opportunities for Jewish and interfaith learning, spiritual and Vincentian formation, leadership development, and service. In addition the Assistant Director will develop and nurture intra-Jewish relationships and a pluralistic Jewish community while also providing pastoral care in particular but not exclusively around the needs of the Jewish community. The Assistant Director will take the in lead in the division's interfaith and religious pluralism efforts  with students. This staff person will additionally collaborate with members of the Faculty and Staff Engagement team, particularly around their work with DePaul's Jewish Faculty and Staff Alliance. 

What You'll Do:

Jewish Life Ministry
Provide primary leadership of all facets of Jewish LIfe Ministry at DePaul: Supervise and mentor student leaders and workers; provide Jewish formation, spiritual support, community building, and faith learning for students, faculty, and staff; provide primary leadership in coordinating and facilitating regular Jewish prayer and worship services (particularly around Jewish holidays and celebrations); coordinate, assist in planning, and mentor students in leadership around Jewish prayers, programs, service, and events; coordinate and collaborate with external partners around their events and provide leadership in planning an annual Unity Shabbat and ensure external partners are properly vetted and adhere to university policies and procedures.  

Religious Pluralism Oversight
Serve as the key lead in DePaul's religious pluralism and student interfaith initiatives such as Interfaith Scholars, dialogue programs, interfaith immersion experiences, etc. Assist in developing annual curriculum and religious pluralism and dialogue calendar; take lead in guiding students in planning and implementing religious pluralism events and programs.

Perform other duties as assigned
These duties may include but not be limited to leading a service immersion trip, facilitating a Vincentian Heritage Tour, and assisting in the implementation of large scale Divisional events.

What You'll Need:

Supervises team of student workers, Jewish Faith in Action Scholars, Interfaith Scholars and collaborates with Jewish student religious organization leaders. Manages relationships with relevant external Jewish partners (Hillel, Chabad, JUF, etc.).

Manages assigned annual budget for programs and activities under their purview plus additional High Holidays budget and assigned endowment funds. Consults with manager throughout the year on budget decisions that fall outside established annual budget parameters. Per university expectations, manages and reports as necessary.
  • Master's degree. (Jewish studies, religious studies, Rabbinical studies, etc.) Pluralistic Jewish studies (preferred).
  • Requires at least one year of professional experience in Jewish student support (preferred).
  • Requires understanding of pluralistic Jewish theology.
  • Requires one year of professional experience working withing pluralistic Jewish community.
  • Requires at least one year of experience in developing and leading/guiding Jewish ritual and/or worship.
  • Requires at least one year of experience, study, or work within an inter-religious discipline or setting, including training or experience in interfaith dialogue.
  • Requires at least one year of professional speaking experience.
  • Clinical Pastoral Experience (preferred-openness to pursuing at least one quarter of CPE as professional development).
