Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Senior SI & Simulation Engineer located in Austin, TX, Milpitas, CA or Seattle, WA.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Server & Storage Engineering the Senior SI & Simulation Engineer will be part of a team which designs and delivers, Server & Storage products to Cloud, Enterprise, and Edge customers, and platforms internal to Flex, through end-to-end development involving concept, architecture, design, validation, and release phases.

WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE:

  • Model, design, and characterize, complex electrical signaling channels, to determine line-loss and cross-talk profiles for those channels.
  • Set up electrical signal channel simulation decks, and execute end-to-end simulations on high-speed serial and parallel interfaces such as PCIe, xGbE, and DDRx SDRAM.
  • Collaborate with the design team, to determine best-fit components in electrical channels, optimize Chassis-level clock-trees, power distribution topologies, and grounding strategies.
  • Develop PCB stack-ups, through PCB dielectric material selection, determination of trace-geometries & via patterns, and other channel features.
  • Perform PI analysis for power delivery topologies.
  • Generate PCB CAD guidelines for interfaces and support PCB CAD Engineers in PCB design.
  • Support compilation & review of test-plans, and provide hands-on validation support.
  • Performance characterization and correlation of simulation results with empirical lab measurements, using oscilloscopes, TDR meters, VNAs, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Measurement of eye-margins, jitter, and BER, using oscilloscopes and silicon SI capabilities.

THE EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING TO ADD TO THE TEAM:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience, in electrical channel simulations, and Signal Integrity work, including modeling, simulating, and characterizing, complex high-speed electrical channels for interfaces such as PCIe and DDRx SDRAM.
  • Solid understanding of general transmission line theory, characteristic impedances, reflections, terminations, coupling techniques, skin-effect, cross-talk, fiber-weave effect, insertion loss, and return loss.
  • Sound knowledge of electromagnetics, EMI/EMC concepts, and associated mitigation options.
  • Hands-on experience working with S-parameters and IBIS-AMI & HSPICE models.
  • Experience with time-domain & frequency-domain SI simulation tools, PI tools, and 3D/2D EM field solvers such as Pathwave ADS, HFSS, Sigrity, and SiWave.
  • Amplitude and timing equalization techniques in transceivers ; jitter fundamentals & mitigation techniques, BER measurement ; serial channel re-timer experience.
  • Lab validation experience with logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, high-end oscilloscopes, and frequency response analyzers, from major manufacturers such as Tektronix, Keysight, and LeCroy.

HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR PREFERRED EXPERIENCES…

  • Hands-on electrical channel modeling, simulation, and validation experience with PCAs for single, dual, or multi-socket Motherboards with Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC CPUs, backplane boards, and adapter cards.
  • Experience with modeling, simulating, and validating ‘25Gbps or higher data-rate per lane' differential electrical channels, using PAM-4 signaling.
  • Expertise in low-Dk, low-Df higher-performance PCB dielectric materials.
  • Compliance testing on key interfaces such as PCIe and USB.
