JOB PURPOSE
This position is responsible for quoting and rating proposals and renewal projections and approves cases within established authority guidelines.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree or 5 years of experience in a group health insurance function. 
* 5 years of experience underwriting cases of moderate complexity OR demonstrated capability to meet required job responsibility.
* 2 years of experience underwriting of higher complexity cases. 
* Math skills including the four basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication) and ability to estimate for mathematical reasonableness. 
* Successfully demonstrated interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining positive business relationships along with effective negotiation skills. 
* Successfully demonstrated skills and experience in underwriting and pricing of various funding options and products, with emphasis on making sound underwriting decisions and judgement
* Successfully demonstrated skills for performing risk qualification. 
* 5 years of experience in stop loss underwriting and thorough understanding of the stop loss market, including products, pricing and competitive landscape.
* Independent judgment and problem resolution skills.
* Work and project management skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time and workload to meet deadlines.
* Verbal and written communication skills to include correct grammar, word choice, precision, conciseness, structure, audience appropriate tone and language.
* PC proficiency to include Word and Excel. 
* Successfully demonstrated skills and experience in presenting to internal and external clients. 
* Extensive knowledge and skills in applying state and federal legislation governing underwriting practices. 
* Financial analysis and underwriting skills.
* Successful experience achieving positive results dealing with customers, consultants and brokers with skills to deliver on the job training.
* Extensive experience-based knowledge of group medical products, discount practices, stop loss and performance guarantees.
* Process management and process improvement experience and skills to identify and implement process changes.
* Represent HCSC as a consultant/subject matter expert for financial meetings with external clients. Formulate strategies and present renewals, proposals, and other financial strategies to designated prospect and current accounts, consultants, and brokers.
* Take an active role in corporate projects and function as the lead in departmental projects. 

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
* For Large Group:  Demonstrated experience to underwrite experience rated and manually rated health insurance products with sound underwriting judgment.
* Knowledge of the Blue System and ability to price national business.
* Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) industry experience with major pharmacy benefit managers.
