Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director, Event Operations, the Assistant Director, Event Operations coordinates the planning and execution of high quality athletic events for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics 25 nationally recognized intercollegiate varsity sport programs.
This position will serve as the main point of contact for game operations and event management of all assigned athletics competitions. In fulfilling these duties, this position is responsible for effectively collaborating amongst multiple units both internal and external to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Major functions of this role include: game/event planning, development, execution and review; communication with a wide range of constituents; elite customer service delivery amongst a wide range of constituents; management and leadership of part-time staff; maintenance of existing best practices and development and implementation of new best practices as necessary; maintenance and implementation of measures put in place to maintain a safe and secure environment for all constituents.
Given the stature and nature of the sports involved, and in interest of protecting and enhancing the University and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics brand, this position will be held to the highest degree of excellence in terms of game/event operations, management, and presentation.
Spectator and participant safety, and compliance with NCAA, Pac-12 Conference, MPSF, and University rules and regulations are fundamental elements of each event.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. Required Master's Degree preferred. Preferred Minimum two (2) years of working in an event management role is preferred Preferred Working knowledge of NCAA and ability to learn and adhere to Pac-12 Conference game management policies and procedures for all sports; detailed knowledge of rules, customs and traditions for intercollegiate athletic competitions. Required Ability to develop work product in a consistent manner and with high regard to detail, and ability to embrace and thrive in a constantly changing environment full of interruptions. Required Working knowledge of safety codes, emergency procedures, and risk management as applied to athletic competitions and public assemblies. Required Detailed knowledge of arenas, stadiums, and other venues and thorough knowledge of various building systems related to athletic competitions; thorough knowledge of all staffing positions required to operate a game/event. Required Skill in preparing and motivating personnel to efficiently accomplish a desired performance. Required Ability to recognize and correct deficient event operations in a rapid and organized manner. Required Ability to meet short-term and long term deadlines on many concurrent assignments while achieving the desired result in all cases. Required Ability to train and evaluate staff to perform according to set policy and procedure. Required Working knowledge of various event related audio/video components. Required Ability to communicate at a high level in various forms including, but not limited to, written and verbally. Required Working knowledge of various computer software (office systems, data base and reports, graphics).
